At Agricultural Missions, Inc. (AMI), we envision a world where rural communities have the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive. We see farming families, youth, women, and community leaders working together to build resilient local economies, strengthen food systems, steward natural resources, and create hopeful futures for the next generation.
For nearly a century, AMI has practiced what we call accompaniment. To us, accompaniment means walking alongside communities rather than directing them from afar. It means listening first, learning together, sharing knowledge, and building long-term relationships rooted in mutual respect and trust. Accompaniment has always been central to AMI’s work, and it continues to guide how we engage with communities today.
Looking ahead, we hope to expand the reach of AMI’s sustainable, community-led approach to rural development in farming communities facing persistent economic challenges, food insecurity, and barriers to opportunity around the world. We envision strengthening and growing our partnerships throughout Sierra Leone and Liberia, building on years of collaboration that have helped establish some of the first cooperative farming initiatives in the regions where we work. Together with local leaders, we seek to expand opportunities for youth, women, and farming families while increasing food security, agricultural productivity, and community resilience.
We also envision deepening connections across the U.S. Black Belt through coalition building, shared learning, and partnership development. At a time when many rural communities face economic uncertainty, environmental pressures, and social division, we believe strong relationships and collective action are more important than ever. By bringing together farmers, faith communities, universities, cooperatives, and grassroots leaders, we hope to strengthen local ecosystems and create pathways toward greater prosperity and sustainability.
As we look to the future, we aspire to return to vulnerable rural communities in Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, expand our presence throughout West Africa, and continue strengthening partnerships here at home. Through accompaniment, collaboration, and a shared commitment to justice, dignity, and opportunity, AMI will continue working toward a future where rural communities everywhere can flourish.
