Language carries the history, identity, and culture of a people. In Sierra Leone, Krio connects people across communities, while in Liberia, Kolokwa reflects the country’s distinct expressions, experiences, and heritage.

Through our West Africa Initiative, AMI works alongside communities in both countries – listening to local voices, learning from their knowledge, and respecting the languages through which their stories, needs, and solutions are expressed. Because meaningful community-led development begins with understanding people in their own words.
