At the heart of Ag Missions’ work is food sovereignty: a community’s right to control their own food systems. Through farmer field schools, local leadership training, and sustainable agriculture practices, AMI strengthens rural communities’ ability to feed themselves, withstand economic shocks, and resist exploitative practices. By combining traditional knowledge with new tools, these programs build resilience against hunger, climate change, and displacement.

For generations, AMI has worked alongside rural people who use cooperation as a strategy for survival, self-determination, and economic justice. From farmer and youth groups around the world to Black farmer cooperatives in the U.S. South, AMI’s role has been to connect communities, strengthen grassroots organizations, share knowledge, and support collective approaches.

Cooperative development, seed saving, and regenerative soil practices remain part of AMI’s strategy alongside land retention, food sovereignty, climate resilience, and equitable markets.
