The Gender Justice program has been one of the core missions of AMI through the West Africa Initiative. Established with the sole objective of supporting girls’ education and tackling gender-based violence, the program has recorded tangible success since inception, and up till now, this program continues to be highly successful and very much in demand in both countries.

It is very visible in the attempt to improve the status of women and girls, both in the  short term and long term. Community awareness activities seek to reduce and prevent acts of violence which women and girls are subjected to within their homes and communities.

The support for girls in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) is an attempt to advance the status of girls and women through increasing the levels of formal education and hopefully, the development of women professionals and leaders. The lack of literacy and higher education is the major factor limiting the advancement of women. Even now, girls enrolled in the program enjoyed improved status and recognition from their families and communities for this achievement.
